Throughout Japan, you will find it easy to buy lunch or dinner meals for A$30 or A$40. Of course, the usual take-aways such as McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken are in all the major cities.

In most of the hotels features in this website, a full Western breakfast can be had for A$35 or less and many feature a 3-course "Business lunch" with coffee and tea for approximately A$70.

Most of the coffee shops near your hotels sell a "Morning Set" breakfast which is a light breakfast such as coffee, toast, ham and egg for less than A$15.

Be guided by the season you select. Spring and autumn are similar to NSW and Victoria's.

Summer is quite hot and humid. Winter is colder than Australia with snow in the mountains and sometimes in the cities also.

Wash and wear clothes are ideal and a light nylon raincoat is a good idea. "Slip-on" shoes are most convenient for entering any attraction where shoes need to be removed and non-slip soles are best for winter.

Australian passport holders do not need a visa to visit Japan for sightseeing for stays up to 90 days. The requirements for other nationalities vary so you should check with your booking agent.

Our most popular credit cards are acceptable in most hotels and tourist restaurants. However, the inexpensive dining venues outside hotels do not usually accept credit cards.

If you intend taking electrical appliances to Japan, check they have an inbuilt transformer as the voltage in Japan is 100-110V. A two (2) pin adaptor plug is needed. Some hotels provide a socket for 220-240V.

Australian Duty Free stores are very competitive with their pricing and offer the advantages of local guarantees and voltages of electrical goods. We suggest you take advantage of the local discounts in Australia.

We recommend YEN Travellers Cheques. These are easily exchanged at all hotels. Japanese Banks are very slow to change currency and Travellers Cheques and do not always have English speaking staff available.
